  • 皆さん、これからバイリングアルでの英語の勉強をスタートしましょう！
  • 初めが大切なので、ここで大事なことをお話しします。
  • １．正しい発音を覚える。
  • ２．言葉は最低１５回は読んで（発音して）又、ノーとに書いて覚えましょう！
  • ３．英語はそのまま覚えて日本語に直さない習慣をつけましょう！
  • ４．英語の辞書は、英英辞典、お勧めは　Oxford のWordpower,　全ての単語に発音が入って　いて、又一度パソコンにインストールすれば、インターネット上で何時も開かれているので、辞書不要！大変便利！
  • ５．毎日少しでも（たとえ５－１0分）英語に触れる習慣をつけましょう。
  • ６．練習問題の添削は必ず、お受け下さい。回答をメールでお送りいただければ、懇切丁寧に添削して、点数も付けて送り返します。

慣用語　(idioms) - 11
  • 15. 誰々の世話をする、の意味で、take care of / care for / look after が使われます。例えば；
  • 　Who’s taking care of the children while you’re away?
  •   She moved back home to care for her elderly parents.
  •   Who’s going to look after the children while you’re away?


  • 16. 何々を求める、とゆう意味で、　seek for / search for / long for / yearn for = be anxious/ eager for (to ).
  •    例えば；
  • 　She searched in vain for her passport.
  •   Lucy had always longed for a brother.
  •   People yearned for peace.
  •   She was anxious to finish school and get a job.(= wanting something very much)
  •   She is eager for her parents’ approval. (= wants very much to get)

慣用語　(idioms) - 10
  • 12. 何々をせざるを得ない、とゆう意味で、 be forced / compelled / obliged / bound + to + V　－原型が使われ
  • 　　ます。例えば；
  • 　I was forced to take a taxi because the last bus had left.(=compelled)
  •   I feel ( am) compelled to write and tell you how I enjoyed your book. (formal)
  •   I felt (was) obliged to ask them to dinner.(= was forced to do)
  •   They are legally bound to appear in court.


  • 13. 利用する、とゆう意味で、make use of / take advantage of / avail oneself of / exploit  / utilize.
  •     例えば；
  • 　We would make better use of our resources. (= to use something especially to get an advantage)
  •   You should make use of your contacts.
  •    We took full advantage of the hotel facilities.
  •    She took advantage of the children’s absence to tidy their rooms. (tidy= 整理する）
  • 　Guests are encouraged to avail themselves of the full range of hotel facilities.
  •   exploit= to use something well in order to gain as much from it as possible;
  •      She fully exploits the humor of her role in the play.
  •   utilize: (formal) to use something especially for a practical purpose;
  •      The Romans were the first to utilize concrete as a building material.


  • 14. 何々にも関わらず、の意味で、in spite of / for all  = despite.
  •   In spite of his age, he still leads an active life.
  •   For all its clarity of style, the book is not easy reading.
